I posted the internet safety on the previous post.
I also completed the following: Course evaluation, course survey, and I checked my grades.

I fixed the lesson plans. Week 11 and 12 PLE- what were supposed to do for those? Other than that, all the grades are correct.

Internet Safety

The article I chose to read was "Focus and Priorities" by Dallin H. Oaks. I really liked it was a good reminder to me that even if I am not doing bad things on the internet, we still need to remember that spending too much time on the internet can be a waste of our time if we are not careful.
The video resources I watched were so good. I watched a cartoon about internet safety that was very cute. I thought it would be a good thing to show in a classroom. A lot of my other videos were about teens who got deceived by older men. Other videos were about cyberbullying and similar situations.
The thing that hit me the most was about the teens' situations. It made the situation that I thought never happened jump out at me as a reality. It happens all the time. I need to be more aware, especially when I have kids of my own. I also learned things we can do to stop internet abuse if nowhere else then our home. First, spend quality time with your children so that you have a relationship with them. That way if the time comes where something happens, they will respond by telling you, not hiding it. Put computers in public places and also limit time children can use it. We must not let the virtual reality become their reality.
I talked to an adult about internet safety and she told me that it is important to not log on a computer as someone else. Kids should not be able to go to any websites. Some need to be blocked. Also, personal information should be kept that...personal and not shared. She agreed with everything I said. Nothing surprised me about the reaction I got. It was pretty much what I expected because I talked to someone who knew the importance of taking precaution to helping her kids growing up. I think the person will continue to use internet safety.

PLE week 10

I learned using technology in the classroom takes a lot of patience and time. When I use technology in the classroom, I need to be able to stay calm if the project takes way longer than intended. I really liked the Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? video because it seemed the most practical and something that is closer to the technology I want to use in the classroom. I think it would be kind of difficult to wait and make sure everyone had time at the computers. I think I would be tempted to realize the activity is going a long time and to try to cut out the lesson and move on the next thing I was suppose to teach that day. The spider activity was creative, but I don’t think I would be able to do it because I am so afraid of spiders. I thought it was cool how they were connected to a teacher millions of states away. I wasn’t a huge fan of the habitats lesson. I don’t see myself really using that kind of activity. Overall, I thought the technology lessons were creative and made learning fun for the kids.

Technology in the classroom

I have noticed that in my classroom, not much technology is used or even available. We are lucky to have three computers in the back for students to play math games and such on. Although the overhead is not counted as much in modern times as technology, it is probably the most used. I did the midcourse evaluation and the informed consent form.

Science Challenge Week 8

I watched Julia, Mekelle, and Emily Carr's voice threads.

I learned that there are many technology opportunities that I never would have ever thought were available. I love the variety that I have been exposed to. Some of the programs I think were the most Stellarium, the digital microscope, and temperature probs. I feel that these are the most beneficial to helping students really learn the science concepts they are supposed to learn. Technology really assists the learning process.

I am planning on doing the 2nd grade curriculum on sorting rocks based upon color, hardness, texture, layering, and particle size. I am going to use a digital microscope to look at rocks of all kinds and then classify them according to similar and different characteristics.

Content: sort rocks based upon color, hardness, texture, layering, and particle size
Pedagogy: I will be using three pedagogies: Observing, classifying, inferring, predicting, measureing; and acquiring and processing data. To do this, I will use a matrix to show each rock's characteristics and a worksheet to compare similar and different characteristics to help the content be applied to real life.
Technology: Microscope will help us to more clearly see the characteristics of the rocks.

I think this project would take a lot of time to make for my students. I think it can be beneficial to students, but teachers do not always have the time to spend on something that takes less than half the time it took to make it. Of course, there are exceptions. Visual tours are very good for students because they can go visit places that normally the school's budget would not cover. The tours are great to show students different places around the Earth.

Sorry this is posted late. I was going to post it 4 and a half hours ago, but my computer was not working right.

For fifth graders, I would like to make a virtual tour to demonstrate standard 4, objective 3, part a that states that they need to be able to identify the key ideas, events, and leaders of the Civil War using primary sources (e.g. Gettysburg Address, Emancipation Proclamation, news accounts, photographic records, diaries).

I choose this topic because I love Abraham Lincoln and his desire to be honest with people. I feel he is a good model for children to see in someone who has good character. Exploring more about Lincoln's life and times of the civil war are good to experience. Virtual tours would be good to teach this because it would cost too much to allow everyone to take a flight to visit the licoln memorial and then visit his childhood home. There is not enough time nor money to do so with all your students. For this cause, virtual tours allows all students to be able to enjoy the wonderous sites without lots of money cause.

I believe the most difficult challenge when implementing a digital storytelling project in an elementary education classroom will be getting all the students get the pictures or props needed to make their movie. You could say to bring their supplies from home but not everyone has the same opportunities. Some students might be able to take pictures to put in their movies, but others may not have a camera at home to do so. Doing it in class may be hard because maybe the school does not have enough cameras for everyone therefore it will take longer to get the assignment done. This may cause more misbehavior because the students will get bored waiting for the camera to get to them.

This storyboard is an interpretation of a poem called "All My Great Excuses" by Kenn Nesbitt.

TPACK is essential for every teacher to be aware of. It is the balance between teaching content, using technology, and knowing and using strategies to teach. When the balance of these three things are put into practice, TPACK is present. If teachers have this balance, learning can be exponential. Using technology and strategies to help children learn the content helps theem remember the material better. The balance is important for teachers to learn because sometimes too much of a good thing can hinder the learning that happens in the classroom.

It took a while to figure out the videos because the computers were not working right, but it all worked out. I really enjoyed making the front page of my website because I felt this was the most individual part. I thought the content page was hard to find all the different material and try to get it on the right grade level and all. Overall, I thought this assignment was useful.

Hello! I am not the best with technology, but I can do quite a bit. I am pretty familiar with looking things up on the web and using programs such as powerpoint and word. Also, I use computers for emailing and such.
